Investment Hiring Waits for Broader Momentum: Many firms entered 2026 expecting transaction activity to accelerate after several years on the sidelines, but the recovery has been slower and more uneven than anticipated. Hiring remains targeted around active strategies and specific needs rather than broad additions ahead of expected deal flow.
Growth Roles Move to the Forefront: Continued M&A and expansion into new businesses are reshaping how firms think about growth. This has led to higher demand for strategy, corporate development and strategic initiatives professionals who can evaluate new opportunities, support acquisitions, and help with post-M&A integration.
Senior Talent Is on the Move: A growing number of long-tenured executives are transitioning through organizational change, succession, and natural career evolution, while new platforms and specialist businesses are creating more options for experienced leaders. That movement is putting greater pressure on firms to strengthen succession planning, develop internal bench strength, and retain rising leaders.
Institutional Capital Gets Closer to the Operator: LPs are increasingly partnering directly with specialist operators, attracted by the sector expertise and hands-on execution that can drive value at the asset level. To support these relationships, operators are having to institutionalize their functions and processes, driving talent investment across a range of functions such as capital formation, portfolio management, finance, and reporting.
Capital Formation Expands Its Mandate: As firms broaden both their product sets and investor channels, they are looking for capital formation professionals who can do more than manage a traditional fundraise. Hiring increasingly favors people who can help shape products, develop tailored institutional solutions, and / or build access to private wealth and retail channels.
Private Credit Moves Into Infrastructure: Growing financing needs across power, digital, and energy transition are drawing more private credit capital into infrastructure. As credit managers build dedicated capabilities and infrastructure platforms expand into debt, demand is growing for professionals who can bring structured credit and underwriting experience to complex infrastructure investments.
