The September Story
Why “September”?
Well, September 2025 is when we launched. Even more, this transitional month—the beginning of a new season—acts as a compelling metaphor for our work.
As we collaborate with clients to scope and fill a critical role and guide candidates toward a new challenge, we are ushering their companies and careers into the next season, one of renewed energy and focus. Simultaneously, given the accomplished, senior professionals that we frequently place, it is also a time to begin harvesting the hard work that came before. September captures it all.
We do also love the “back-to-school” nature of the month. Each school year brings an opportunity to start fresh, find new challenges, even embrace our nerves.
Plus, a favorite book—one we give to our team when they join us—is Boys in the Boat, a chronicle of the USA men’s 8-person rowing team that took Olympic gold at the Berlin games in 1936. We love everything about the story—the incredible grit that the athletes demonstrated; the long odds; the underlying triumph of Allies vs. Axis powers. We share it with our colleagues, though, because of the way the characters demonstrate teamwork. Each member of the crew was critical, not only for brute strength and effort, but also for their individual styles and roles, both in and out of the boat. Further, the group only came together once they created a foundation of trust and respect. How does this connect to September? The narrative begins at the start of a new school year at the University of Washington, when the team begins to form… and the work begins.
